| In this work I show how the effectiveness predictions produced by my model can be used with a hillclimbing algorithm to optimize flow visualizations. I found that the optimization converged to flow visualizations with head-to-tail arrows, as used in the popular Jobard & Lefer algorithm. This suggests that the success of the Jobard & Lefer algorithm may be due to it optimally activating the contour perception mechanisms of human vision.
